Since the release of documents that encompassed years of surveilled accounts of sex-trafficking by the felon, Jeffrey Epstein, my heart has felt sick, heavy and disgusted. Evidence of relentless and blatant evil in every corner of the world has solidified the reality of scripture; this Earth is ruled by demonic forces, principalities and the enemy himself (Ephesians 6:12). As scripture labels him, the enemy is the prince of this world who is active and alive (John 14:30).

We are now seeing global footprints of his destructive work and demonic influence within the deepest, depravity of humanity found in the highest level of authority and power. Children have been stolen and murdered. Humans have been sold to fulfill the wicked pleasures of the flesh.

This is pure evil. This is an absolute truth that cannot be relativized. This is a truth that is not open to subjective interpretation or excusable rhetoric. The gut-wretching disgust and righteous anger you feel while reading what this man’s influence, power, reach and actions allowed him to do, are based on a God-given morality within you.

A similar sentiment is felt after seeing a post made by the President of the United States that dehumanized a specific racial group-a post that was clearly thoughtless and a facetious expression of self-grandeur. This is the broken world we live in-where even world leaders do not hold themselves to humane principle.

Scripture informs us about the world’s broken reality in Romans, Chapter 8. This Earth groans for salvation and so does our spirit. Because of this, our hope is found in Christ alone (Romans 8:25).

From the beginning of time, we see evidence of this truth. In scripture, we read about the Israelites finding their hope in electing a man to be their King, i.e., Saul, despite God personally leading them out of Egypt. This hope was misplaced and erroneous.

Their idolization, and misplaced hope in someone/something other than God, was their downfall.

The same mistake is evident even today within all of humanity.

But our hope can be correctly placed in the one who will make everything right again one day and bring a new reality. That person being Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

One day in him, we will encounter a new reality where tears are no longer shed. Where murder no longer occurs, nor deception or hatred.

This is our hope.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelations 21:4

In the meantime, dear reader, I urge you to let this season be a reminder that our hope does not lie in government, status, money, influence, power, entertainment, or humans. Our eyes should solely be on the Lord. The perfector of our faith and our hope for eternity. Seek his Kingdom alone (Matthew 6:22) lest you find yourself utterly heartbroken by the failures of humanity. Choose to be the light in the darkness. A light our world so desperately needs.
