At this point it appears an expected norm to read national headlines who report, yet again, another human shot by armed forces. That alone, makes my stomach turn.

Three days ago, a woman, named Renee Good, was fatally shot. She was a US citizen, and a mother of three. Multiple, vantage point videos showcase tensions escalating between her and federal ICE agents. Reports state she was trying to exit the vicinity after dropping off her child at school.

A clear, skillful shot is released by an ICE agent, while holding his phone pointed towards her face. Seconds prior, she appeared to try and turn her vehicle to leave, while he was positioned in front of her car.

Moments later, her car is brought to a standstill a couple feet away.

Another solemn moment, captured in the 5″ x 6″ frame of a small screen, shared for millions to see and evoke visceral reactions.

Another moment of catalytic division, driving the nation to further impassioned political and moral convictions.

As one of those observers, a gut-wrenching reality overwhelms me…

Our country truly has not been and perhaps may never be the same.

No matter the political leanings one may have, we must ask ourselves, as believers in Christ, “Is this the way?“

Even though I find myself tempted to start a conversation on political topics, I honestly have no desire to do so with this blog-so, I will refrain. My goal remains my focus-to encourage us to look at the Cross.

With that in mind, I want to encourage you, the reader, to focus on the fact that a tragedy has happened. A mother has lost her life, and a man will have to wrestle with what he will lose, i.e., professionally, financially, personally, and/or spiritually etc. Decisions were made in split seconds; and the life of yesterday will never be for those personally involved.

Before partaking in instinctive retort, please consider the following thoughts…

As an observer, what is our role? Is it to make righteous judgment? Is it to be part of a movement seeking justice for whatever course we deem worthy? Are we positioned with the ability to throw down the gavel, or do our mere comments further incite division without actual gain? Should we take matters into our own hands? Should we shout with every decibel in our lungs, proclaiming our view the right one? So many questions to truly bring before the Lord…why? Because we should really want HIS will, not ours.

What does HE call us to do? The answers are in his word, where so much feedback is available.

As for me, I am not an actual federal judge with a gavel in my hand. So, I won’t exercise that role. The reality that I could have found myself in either of those individuals’ predicaments is too real and heavy; this deserves the weight of deep prayer and thought. Due to this, I will hold on to the following truths found in scripture:

“…mourn with those who mourn.” Roman 12:15

“Love what is sincere. Hate what is evil. Cling to what is good.” Roman 12:9

 “Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations. But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them.” Proverbs 24:24-25

“But let justice roll on like a river.” Amos 5:24
